To Karen:

I knew you through your wonderful daughter, Adriana, whom I had the privilege of supervising as a PhD student at UBC. It was through Adriana’s eyes, memories, and life, that I got to appreciate you and the rest of the Dawes family.

I’ll never forget the day that you and Prof (Andy) Dawes both came to Adriana’s PhD defence at UBC! It was the first time ever, to my knowledge, that parents came as members of the audience and as a source of inspiration, support, pride, and encouragement. It started a trend that continued for some time!

Thanks for the inspiration and for being a role model to our family as well.
