I was very saddened to hear of the passing of Karen. I was notified of her passing by Karen Hjort (Gerber), an inseparable friend of Karen’s. Karen was a couple years behind me at the University of Toronto when she and I were studying music. We both played in the University Orchestra and the Concert Band. She played French Horn and I played trombone. We were all friends of Ted Gugula, a violinist/violist.
I remember Karen as a very bubbly and friendly music student. She always seemed to be full of life and laughter and we all had some great times together. After graduation, I heard about her from Karen Hjort and followed the Orford Quartet and her marriage to Andrew through the years.
I would like to express my gratitude for having known Karen and my condolences to Andrew and the rest of the family.
